The Interpersonal Neurobiology of Group Psychotherapy and Group Process

The Interpersonal Neurobiology of Group Psychotherapy and Group Process

The Interpersonal Neurobiology of Group Psychotherapy and Group Process by Susan P. Gantt and Bonnie Badenoch
English | 2013 | ISBN: 1780491778 | 240 pages | PDF | 0,9 MB

Might it be possible that neuroscience, in particular interpersonal neurobiology, can illuminate the unique ways that group processes collaborate with and enhance the brain's natural developmental and repairing processes? This book brings together the work of twelve contemporary group therapists and practitioners who are exploring this possibility through applying the principles of interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) to a variety of approaches to group therapy and experiential learning groups. IPNB's focus on how human beings shape one another's brains throughout the life span makes it a natural fit for those of us who are involved in bringing people together so that, through their interactions, they may better understand and transform their own deeper mind and relational patterns. Group is a unique context that can trigger, amplify, contain, and provide resonance for a broad range of human experiences, creating robust conditions for changing the brain.
The chapters included here introduce and highlight the theoretical and research literatures from an IPNB perspective, especially the newer understandings of brain plasticity, mirror neurons, the autonomic nervous system, implicit and explicit memory, affect regulation and the relation between attachment and brain development. Building on these understandings, the authors elaborate on work with varying types of groups as seen through an IPNB lens, for example; how systems-centered therapy creates a rich neurobiological climate that supports integration; how children's groups can help with sensory motor, psychological, and interpersonal development; how using an IPNB frame enables couples' groups to attain more solid interpersonal regulation; and how experiential learning groups can transform implicit memory.

Connecting Indian Wisdom and Western Science: Plant Usage for Nutrition and Health

Connecting Indian Wisdom and Western Science: Plant Usage for Nutrition and Health

Luisella Verotta, Maria Pia Macchi, "Connecting Indian Wisdom and Western Science: Plant Usage for Nutrition and Health"
2015 | ISBN-10: 1482299755 | 470 pages | PDF | 10 MB

A truly integrated collection of research, compares Ayurvedic and Western conceptions of wellness, healthy lifestyle, and diet. Examining the phyto-pharmacological, phytochemical, clinical, ethnobotanical, sociocultural, and biomedical approaches to plant- and herb-based healthy diets and wellness, it includes approximately 40 selected monographs on fruits, vegetables, spices, nuts, and seeds, complete with Ayurvedic and traditional uses as nutritional ingredients.
The book focuses on how plants can be employed as both aliments and adjuvants, able to improve health and the quality of life. It does so by comparing the Indian Ayurvedic tradition with the Mediterranean diet. Chapters written largely by Indian authors trace the early history of Ayurveda and the basic principles and dietetics of the Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani systems of medicine. Chapters written by western scientists and nutritionists discuss the global focus on nutrients, nutraceuticals, and, importantly, the Mediterranean diet.
Building on this foundation, the book opens what will, no doubt, be a long and continuing journey of mutual exchange and dialogue. The authors create an integrative perspective for understanding India's health traditions through the lens of modern science. They then look at how India's millennia of experience can enrich the West's notions of optimal nutrition, prevention, and personalized healthcare. A core of this exchange is a frontier of exploration into deep insights of human biology, individual differences and seasonal influences on metabolism, and a conceptual approach to nutrition that you can apply across foods and cultures.

Mechanothermodynamics

Mechanothermodynamics
Mechanothermodynamics
Springer | Mechanical Engineering | January 24, 2016 | ISBN-10: 3319249797 | 150 pages | pdf | 12.39 mb

Authors: Sosnovskiy, Leonid, Sherbakov, Sergei
Introduces new models of system states with practical significance: spatial stress-strain states, volumetric damageability states, multi-criteria limiting states, and information states
Provides a generalized analysis of systems working in conditions of mechanical and thermodynamic loading
Presents a solution in the first approximation to the problem of information states of movable and damageable systems

This monograph addresses the foundations of mechanothermodynamics and analyzes two of its key principles-damage of everything that exists has no conceivable limits, and effective energy (entropy) flows caused by loads of a different nature do not have a cumulative property; they interact dialectically. The authors examine a generalized model of energy and entropy states of a mechanothermodynamical medium, which generally is a continuum (liquid, gaseous) containing distributed solid deformable, and, therefore, damageable bodies, as a problem of information states of movable and damageable systems and express a solution in the first approximation. The book goes on to analyze some directions of further research in its conclusion. It is ideal for scientists, engineers, post graduate and master students of mechanics, mathematics and physics.

Perversion: A Jungian Approach

Perversion: A Jungian Approach

Perversion: A Jungian Approach by Fiona Ross
English | 2013 | ISBN: 1780490305 | 160 pages | PDF | 0,6 MB

Theoretical understanding of perversion is neglected in analytical psychology, and narrowly developed in psycho-analysis, where it traditionally refers to sexual perversion. Etymological exploration of the word perversion, including its use in religious, moral, sociological and legal contexts, reveals a wider meaning than that adopted in psychoanalysis. The aim of the author is to revise the psychoanalytic model through the introduction of Jungian concepts that extend the understanding of perversion beyond the bounds of sexuality to a more general relational context.
By describing the development of psycho-analytic thinking on perversion in detail, the author is able to highlight the central differences between the Freudian and Jungian interpretive traditions and to explain why Jungian ideas on perversion have remained underdeveloped, leading to the absence of a unique or available Jungian contribution to the theory of perversion. Jungian concepts, together with some from outside the psychoanalytic domain, are combined with psycho-analytic theory in the formulation of an integrated formulation in which perversion is presented as a response to early trauma with intrapsychic deception enacted relationally in the outside world through vengeful behavior, that is not necessarily sexual, but is addictive and symptomatic of a defensive psychic structure that establishes and perpetuates self-deception. The formulation is presented in stages with illustrations drawn from three biographies, exemplifying sexual perversion, bodily perversion, and emotional or cognitive perversion.

Rethinking Autonomy: A Critique of Principlism in Biomedical Ethics

Rethinking Autonomy: A Critique of Principlism in Biomedical Ethics

Rethinking Autonomy: A Critique of Principlism in Biomedical Ethics by John W. Traphagan
English | 2013 | ISBN: 1438445520, 1438445539 | 176 pages | PDF | 1,3 MB

This groundbreaking book offers a critical examination of the concept of autonomy, one with major implications for biomedical ethics. Working from the perspectives of ethnography and medical anthropology, John W. Traphagan argues that the notion of autonomy as a foundational principle of a common morality, the view dominant in North America, is inadequate as a universal moral category because culture deeply influences how people think about autonomy and the fundamental nature of being human. Drawing from fieldwork in Japan, Traphagan reveals a notably different sensibility, demonstrating how Japanese moral concepts and actions are based upon a deep awareness of the social embeddedness of people and an aesthetic sensitivity that emphasizes context and situation over universality in making moral evaluations of behavior. Traphagan develops data from Japan into a critical examination of how scholarly research in biomedical ethics, and ethics more generally, is conducted in North America. Arguing in a vein related to the emerging area of naturalized biomedical ethics, Traphagan proposes the creation of an empirically grounded study of moral behavior.

Matthew Lewis - A Glimpse of King Richard III
2013 | ASIN: B00CKXXNO0 | English | 88 pages | EPUB, MOBI | 0.5 MB

A Glimpse of King Richard III offers a brief telling of the life of one of England's most renowned monarchs. This book is deliberately short and necessarily misses out large amounts of detail but offers an overview of this fascinating topic.
King Richard III of England was the last of the Plantagenet Kings and the last King of England to die on the battlefield. His story has been passed into the common consciousness as one of an evil uncle ruthlessly seizing power from and killing his own nephews. Yet he is also the only monarch to have a current and active fan club seeking to rehabilitate his reputation.

The Girl Who Committed Hara-Kiri and Other Clinical and Historical Essays

The Girl Who Committed Hara-Kiri and Other Clinical and Historical Essays

The Girl Who Committed Hara-Kiri and Other Clinical and Historical Essays by Franco Borgogno and Alice Spencer
English | 2013 | ISBN: 1780490771 | 430 pages | PDF | 1 MB

This book bears witness to the author's psychoanalytic journey from the years 1994-1995 to the present, and as such is a completion and a continuation of his previous Psychoanalysis as a Journey of 1999. The book is divided into two parts: one clinical and the other theoretical. The two parts are connected to each other, since the concepts and authors on whom the second (theoretical-clinical) part are focused make up the "tools of the trade" that the author utilizes in the first part to describe his work with patients. In particular, Borgogno describes his work with "M," who is the protagonist of many of these pages.
The first (clinical) part contains the text, more or less unmodified, of the analytic paper that the author presented fifteen years ago in order to be appointed a training and supervising analyst. The second (theoretical) part of the book groups together the subjects and mentors who have influenced his reflections throughout these years. The author focuses, among others, on Freud, Ferenczi, and Winnicott, but also on Heimann, Bion, Alice Balint, Michael Balint, Enid Balint, and Little.

Matthew Lewis - A Glimpse Of The Wars Of The Roses
2013 | ISBN: 1491059427 | English | 106 pages | EPUB, MOBI | 0.6 MB

The Wars of the Roses dominated the second half of the fifteenth century in England, but the roots of the conflict lay farther back in time. Families would be torn apart as kings were deposed and local squabbles settled on a national scale. This book offers a brief overview of the key personalities and events that drove and shaped England during this civil war. Beginning with Edward III the wars are traced as Red Rose and White Rose fought for dominance in the garden of England. Lines were drawn and sides chosen. This was no flower garden. This was war.
